Good dental hygiene forms the first line of defence against tooth decay, gum disease, bad breath and more and is central to our preventive care.

Why is dental hygiene important?

Dental hygiene and taking good care of your teeth, gums, and overall oral health can help keep plaque and tartar at bay, as well as keeping the gums healthy. It is the first line of defence in any preventive dental care strategy and can help minimise the need for intervention and treatment.

It can also help protect and promote your overall health and well-being, as gum disease has been linked to health issues such as diabetes and heart disease. Gum disease is also the leading cause of tooth loss and one of the most common diseases in Europe, but it is easily prevented with good dental hygiene habits.

If you’re interested in booking a dental hygiene appointment or any of our treatments at The Corner House Dental Practice, please contact us or call us on 01403 251 015.

How to brush

FAQs

What can I do to help maintain my dental hygiene?

Good dental hygiene starts with the patient. It’s important for you to get into a good routine of taking care of your teeth and mouth. This includes brushing twice daily for two minutes as well as regular flossing, but it also includes regular visits to a trained dental hygienist.

Our highly trained and knowledgeable hygienists here at The Corner House Dental Practice are on hand to help preserve and promote your dental hygiene. They can also help prevent further issues from developing, such as tooth decay and gum disease. If you’re unsure of how to take care of your oral health at home, they’ll also be able to help develop a routine and regime that’s suitable for you and your oral health needs.

How often should I visit the dental hygienist?

If, at a dental examination, we find anything of concern, we may recommend a visit to the hygienist for further treatment and a thorough cleaning. However, we also recommend regular visits to the hygienist as a way to help maintain good oral health. Your hygienist will be able to recommend when you should next return, which could be anywhere from three to 12 months away.
